Snowy owl seeks nourishment –

How Many Syllables

 silence
new falling snow....
owl in flight     

crows cawing…owl hoots
cheery chirruping from limbs ~
ballyhoo morning

You're on my doorstep
You want a family pic?
Got any mice—rats?

at midnight
between the  mountain peeks
a falling star

full moon
shining on the pond
a owl hoots

northern lights
 dancing merrily
in heaven's orb

Guardian of night,
Hoots the alarm of distress:
Disturbing shadows.

like the wise old owl
always keep one eye open...
awake and aware

Silhouetted in the moon
wings outstretched
clutching fat mouse.

Walking in the fog
The cold mist of winter
Thirsts for spring
As the owl echoes.

Lone walk. Fear the night.
Soft footsteps.. black.. still, spooky.
Fast flutter... Owl hoots.

Neck hairs standing up!
Headless horseman..giddyup!
Eerie pumpkin grins...

Noises behind me...
Closer....hot breath on my neck!!
Beat feet! Run like heck!!!

deep forest hush
sun beam on moss covered log
spotted owl calls




The spotted owl lives in old growth 
forest, and is endangered because of
loss of habitat.

Wise owl at his post
"hoo, ha, hoo...hoo, hoo, hoo, hooooo"
thus he gives a hoot!

snow swathed twilight woods
     owl’s screech stirs superstition -
          the deer hunter shakes

nocturnal voyeur
satin sprite in the dark night
clandestine assault

Armor of feathers,
Takes flight to protect the grove:
Soldier of the night.

harvest moon rises -
fox dances with delight
whilst owl hoots for joy

still is the lake

between two meadows---

owl hoots

crushing talons poised
owl swoops on unwary prey
moon hides behind clouds

a shadow bird
sings upon the moon
the dog runs

owl is wise fox sly
elephant never forgets
cows and pigs don't care

the barn swallow swoops
onto a large hay bale
startling the owl

moon washed fields of spring
from atop some distant copse
lonely plaintive cry

Watching with wise eyes, 
Gliding through the air of night, 
There goes its prey... Hoot!

snowy owl perches

on the back of bald eagle

a taxi with wings

A owl cawing flew
Over lake in midnight blue
By pond spirit waits

Hawaiian short-eared 
Owl, guardian spirit saves
Land from strange species

Elegant in flight
Feathers ruffled rounded face
Golden wide eyes stare

moonlight reflection
tawny owl on silent quest~
river drifts on by

land, pines removed~stumps stand...
silence of the woooooo  


An owl that I have been hearing will no longer be heard..

air reconnaissance
pale assassin in the night
stealthily stalking

" You're a twit-ta-woo! "
The cheeky owl criticized.
" You are one too-hoo! "
